What can you do if you forget your Windows password and you have not created a password recovery disk?
There are several ways to reset the password for Windows (NT 2000, XP, Vista), but my favorite is the fastest, fast and simple to use Offline NT Password & Registry Editor.
How do you use?
When you extract the contents of're going to burn the iso file that contains a CD (we can use ImgBurn is completely free and compatible with both XP and Vista).
Without this we are going to boot from the CD just prepared having the foresight to see that the first units set to boot from BIOS is, in fact, the optical drive.
The steps, as reported by site (in English as well as the software in question) are:
1. Start the machine from CD
2. In the floppy version is no need to change the floppy to load drivers
3. Load drivers (usually the process is automatic, but you can do it manually)
4. Select the disk that contains the Windows operating system.
5. Select the "PATH" or the system path (usually the "Windows" folder)
6. Select the files and parts of the register to be loaded based on what you want to do (not in our case)
7. Select the password reset or publisher registration
8. Change your password
9. Write the changes to disk
... And you're done!
WARNING!
Password recovery does not work correctly if the Windows XP or Vista if you choose to encrypt your user folder.
If, in fact, has been enabled EFS (Encrypted File System) the user folder and all data contained therein will be encrypted at the filesystem level and the only way to recover is not to make the password reset and try to remember it.
Another important note: you can get an error when you save such as "Read-only file system".
This occurs if the Windows session is not properly closed (forced shutdown, power outage accident etc.).
In order to recover the password, in this case, you must first start the computer in safe mode and turn it off from the login screen.
You may need to repeat twice.
