Dear Sirs,
As producers of a documentary series on plane crashes titled "Mayday", you have announced officially your intention to air an episode on the plane crush in Smoleńsk on April 10th, 2010, killing 96 prominent Poles including the Polish President in office and the First Lady.
The scenario of the episode seems to be based solely on the highly questionable version of events presented by the so-called Interstate Aviation Committee (English abbreviation: IAC, Russian abbreviation: MAK), in reality a post-Soviet institution, conducting technical investigations on the crush despite an obvious conflict of interests (MAK was involved in technical certification of this very plane, the Tupolev, after its recent servicing by a company owned by a close relative of the MAK chairperson), without adherence to acceptable, basic standards of investigations. The available body of evidence is at odds with the MAK findings as clearly shown by the results of the investigation conducted by the special Polish parliamentary body on the Smoleńsk Crash. It is also largely contradicted by the official report issued on this matter by the Polish government.
If despite the facts brought to your attention, you decide to air the episode in its present form, neglecting appropriate professional media standards, it might expose your company and your employees to multi-million legal actions by the families of the prominent crush victims and many organizations harmed by defamatory, substandard, partial and misleading publications as well as to boycotts and protests by millions of Poles all over the world, outraged by the Russian scandalous misconduct in the investigations.
Faithfully yours,
