1 And the serpent1 was more cunning than all the land animals that God created. He said to the woman, "Did God really say, Eat not the fruit of all the trees of this garden?" 2 The woman answered the serpent, "We can eat the fruit of the trees of this garden, 3 only of the fruit of the tree in the middle of the garden, God said: You must not eat from it or even touch it, lest you die." 4 Then the serpent said to the woman, "You will certainly not die! 5 But God knows that when you eat the fruit of this tree, your eyes will be opened and you will know good and evil like God. So she plucked the fruit from it, tasted it, and gave it to her husband who was with her, and he ate. 7 Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they realized that they were naked; so they sewed fig branches together and made loincloths for themselves.
8 But when the man and his wife heard the footsteps of the Lord God walking in the garden when there was a gust of wind, they hid themselves from the Lord God among the trees of the garden. 9 The Lord God called the man and asked him, "Where are you?" 10 He replied, "I heard your voice in the garden, I was frightened because I was naked, and I hid myself." 11 God said: Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten of the tree which I forbade you to eat? » 12 The man replied, "The woman you set by my side gave me fruit of the tree and I ate it." 13 Then the Lord God said to the woman, "Why did you do this?" The woman replied, "The serpent deceived me and I ate me." 14 Then the Lord God said to the serpent,
“Because you have done this,
be cursed among all the animals and the wild;
you will crawl on your belly and eat dust all the days of your existence.
15 I am making enmity between you and the woman,
between your offspring and her offspring:
it will crush your head,
and you will crush its heel ”.
16 He said to the woman: "I will burden you with the great difficulty of your pregnancy; you will bear children in pain, and your desires will be directed to your husband, and he will rule over you".
17 The man and the [God] said, "Because you listened to your wife and ate from the tree about which I commanded you, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it -

and you shall eat the plants of the field.
19 In the sweat of your face you
will have to find food
until you return to the land
from which you were taken;
for you are
dust and to dust you shall return! »4
20 The man named his wife Eve, 5 because she became the mother of all living.
21 The Lord God made garments of skins for man and for his wife, and clothed them. 22 Then the Lord God said: "Behold, man has become like us: he knows good and evil; let him not stretch out his hand now to pick the fruit from the tree of life, eat it and live for ever ”6. 23 Therefore the Lord God delivered him out of the garden of Eden to till the ground from which he was taken. 24 And after he had expelled the man, God set cherubim and the gleaming edge of the sword before the garden of Eden to guard the way to the tree of life.
