Anglik sobie pisze o Polsce

Wiktor Kornhauer Wiktor Kornhauer Polityka Obserwuj notkę 12

Właśnie spotkałem kumpla po fachu. Zwyczajny gość. Polityka go interesuje mniej niż pogoda. Mimo to szlag go trafił po ostatnim wyskoku tutejszego żurnalisty z The Sunday Times Magazine. Belkot pomieszany z faktami sprawiający wrażenie wierszówy pisanej na zamówienie. Posadzenia o antysemityzm, germanofobie oraz zwroty typu "pit bull terrier “who worries you till you’re dead”" w odniesieniu do braci sa u autora na porzadku dziennym. Najwiekszy zarzut? Proszę bardzo: "Pint-sized, rotund, with anachronistic choirboy haircuts, the monozygotic Kaczynskis (“Cash-inskis”) – President Lech and Prime Minister Jaroslaw – dream of bringing Poland to “rightful” prominence on the world stage." I tak mniej więcej przez cały artykuł.

Zapewne znajda sie w Polsce kretyni, którzy tego typu geszefciarzom będą klaskać. No ale cóż. Niektórych myślenie straszliwie szczypie. W załączeniu przesyłam list do redakcji jaki wysłał mój przyjaciel.

Dear Sirs,Massive disappointment was the feeling I was left with after reading “The Warsaw Pact” by John Cornwell in the 19.08.2007 issue of The Sunday Times Magazine. As a Pole living in Ireland I was naturally interested in how our British neighbours see Polish affairs. I am still baffled with the crude and simplified picture I saw. I used to consider The Times to be a serious newspaper providing sound information and objective analysis. Why they published this lampoon is a mystery to me. Few facts, loads of inaccuracies, primitive stereotypes, some exaggerations and a dash of patronizing, reminded me of the journalism standards I used to find in regime-subservient press during communist era. It has been long time since I had such pains reading a paper. To make things clear- I am not a fan of Kaczynskis’ duo. I did not vote for The Law and Justice, I hate the coalition they have constructed and I do not approve many things this government does. Still, I find picturing them as intellectually challenged “blokes” brought to power by fanatic rabble, unfair, to say the least. There are a number of issues in Poland that, after years of neglect, that are being tackled. “Lustracja” is just one of them (and by the way- this word has no semantic connection to “cleansing” whatsoever). Germans did it with their STASI informers, Czechs did it with their former communist apparatus members, but in spite of a few attempts it has not happened in Poland although (or perhaps because of that) we were the first to break out the Soviet block. As a result both our political and economical life went down with chronic diseases- distrust and cynicism. Is it so difficult to understand that in order to heal the past, the truth has to be outspoken? Yet for the author of the article it is “witch hunting”. Well, done. And such is the role of The Warsaw Uprising Museum: to say the truth that was unspoken for so long and to pay a tribute to 15,000 soldiers, and about 200,000 civilians fallen or savagely murdered by Nazis during two months of uneven fighting. Finally to pay a tribute to the city, once so vibrant, which was systematically flattened in vengeance after the fall of the uprising. Now, the author found his visit to the museum depressing. I wonder what the heck had he expected it to be? Cheering up? Entertaining? Amusing? And, being so concerned about the Polish “Germanophobia”, would he also suggest closing down the Auschwitz Museum? It is not my intention to straighten out all the errors found in the article. I just wanted to express my regret that instead of helping to understand better the homeland of the 700,000 diaspora, which is now contributing to the British economy, one of the leading newspapers feeds it’s readers with such a shallow scribble. Is it lack of respect or resources?Dublin

Pozdrawiam

PS: I jeszcze jedno. Ciekawostka.
