Dear colleagues!
My name is [..] and I am a head [..] in Moscow [..]
I suppose that some of you don't know me, however, I feel it necessary, after a week of shock and despair to express my position on the tragedy that is happening right now between my country and Ukraine.
I cannot say for the whole Russian science, however, as far as I know, none of my colleagues and friends here in the lab and in the Institute support this impossible invasion to the neighboring country, which brings nothing but death and sorrow to people of both Ukraine and Russia. We all feel ashamed, afraid, lost, and desperate because we understand that the future will bring us no light. We feel hostages in our own country, all the demonstrations for peace are cruelly disbanded, people get beaten and imprisoned, elections are just a farce. Those, who oppose the invasion openly, get fired from their jobs, and I am afraid, that if nothing changes, we can all go to jail. Our savings become rubbish. We all have families - parents, wives, and children, I have students and other staff members, and their future depends on me. Thus, most of us are in the ethical trap, when social liabilities contradict personal moral obligations. I hope that none of you would ever find yourself in such a position.
For this reason, I ask You to consider this message personal and subject to disclosure to the press or broad community.
I hope that the tragedy could be somehow overcome, but, frankly speaking, I don't see the way out of this hell.
Sincerely Yours,
[..]
