Note verbale No.2 from Stary Wiarus

Stary Wiarus, blogger, presents his compliments to Her Excellency Georgette Mosbacher, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States of America to the Republic of Poland, and has the honour to advise as follows:

1. It has come to my attention that you have recently published the following communication on Twitter.

"@FaktyTVN is part of the @Discovery family - a publicly traded US company listed on the NY Stock Exchange, committed to transparency, freedom of speech, and independent, responsible journalism. To suggest otherwise is simply false.— Georgette Mosbacher (@USAmbPoland) April 20, 2020".

2. Your TT note raises serious supervision and quality control issues with regard to the work of the Political Section of the US Embassy Warsaw. Had the relevant personnel been doing their jobs properly, you would have been briefed as to the unwisdom of a United States Ambassador taking a strongly partisan position in domestic politics of a host country, 20 days before a highly contentious presidential election.

3. This is the second time, ma'am, that you come out publicly in defence of the Polish TVN network, both times on the grounds of the ownership of the network by an American corporate entity, Discovery Inc.  (NASDAQ: DISCA).

4. The previous occasion, in November 2018, was your letter to the Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, chastising the PM and Polish state officials for calling out fake news generated by the TVN network.

5. Your November 2018 intervention, less than three months into your mission to Warsaw, could be attributed to inexperience and/or insufficient background briefing prior to assuming your post.

6.  No such excuse is available to your current endeavour. It is impossible for you not to know by now, that notwithstanding its notional American corporate ownership, the Polish TVN network, which you choose to defend, is the voice of political forces intent on removal of the legitimate, democratically elected Government of Poland, your host Government, by any means.

7. TVN is our CNN, ma'am - probably the largest purveyor of fake news in the country. Since its inception in 1997, TVN has been closely aligned with the post-Communist, Left Liberal stream of Polish politics, firmly opposed to the full national sovereignty of Poland, and strongly supportive of political preferences of the neighbouring foreign states. As such, the network is strongly opposing the present conservative Government of Poland, and actively campaigns for removal of the incumbent President of Poland in the forthcoming presidential election planned for May 10, 2020.

Just like CNN will celebrate and rejoice in the event of President Trump failing to be re-elected, so will the TVN in the event of an ouster of President Andrzej Duda.

8. Accordingly, by giving succour to TVN, you are assisting the enemies of Poland and taking sides in the Polish presidential campaign, contrary to the United States foreign policy position articulated by President Donald Trump during President Andrzej Duda's last visit to Washington.

9. You will be aware of the honourable course of action open to every Ambassador in disagreement with his or her country's foreign policy. As all US Ambassadors serve at the President's pleasure, it is quite clear what course of action should be taken by an Ambassador publicly contradicting her President.
