Extreme cold kills over a dozen in Peru's highlands

Temperatures have begun to drop dramatically in Peru's highland regions, reported SENAMHI, the country's weather service.
According to the national weather agency, temperatures in the highlands of Puno, Tacna, Arequipa, Moquegua and Apurimac have dropped as low as -15°C (5°F).
The climatic phenomenon could be a consequence of a lack of clouds*, said Jorge Chira, a department head at SENAMHI.
He explained that the average temperature in the region would be -12°C (10°F) but did not discard that temperatures could drop more throughout the week.
"The temperature could easily drop below the average and reach -15°C and could fall even lower than that," said Chira.
In a report issued by the Regional Health Directorate, it was reported that in 2008 alone, 16 people have already died in Puno because of extremely cold weather.
It was also reported that 54,859 cases of respiratory infections had been registered, 700 of which were pneumonia.
The areas affected most are those 2,500 meters (8,202 feet) above sea level and higher, said SENAHMI.
*"The climatic phenomenon could be a consequence of a lack of clouds".
A ten lack of clouds to niby co spowodowało?
PS Gdyby młody i dynamiczny elektorat partii sukcesu potrzebował tłumaczenia, służę uprzejmie w wolnej chwili.
